Song Portraits: Milton

(collaborative songwriting project, 2023)

Song Portraits: Milton is a community-engaged artwork created by Corbin Murdoch in collaboration with six members of the Milton Hall community. Milton Hall is a community and cultural hub in the Rural Municipality of Miltonvale Park where people come to gather, learn new skills, play cards, dance, cook, distribute food, and take shelter during storms… among many other things. This project celebrates six of the people who contribute to the vitality and vibrancy of this amazing place.

Over the course of three months, Corbin met with the six participants for a series of “portrait sittings”, resulting in six new songs inspired by their lives, their ideas, and their expressions of self.

On March 31, 2023, the songs were performed live at the Hall in front of a band of professional musicians from across PEI. Each “portrait subject'“ got up on stage and sang their song in front of a packed house full of their friends, family, and neighbours. The event was a presentation of this town is small’s Radiant Rural Halls program.

Documentation of the project is currently being compiled. This page will be update soon with more photos, video, and audio from the event.
